“Cinderella” the latest live action adaptation from Disney, based on one of their classic animated films is actually quite good. I was shocked to find that I enjoyed this so much especially after the dreadful “Maleficent” and the ugly “Alice In Wonderland”. I guess it took director Kenneth Branagh to focus more on the story and less on the non-stop CGI. Those early films seemed mostly produced in computers as far as I could tell. CGI dominated everything.
Here we get actual sets, costumes and performances. The classic tale of Cinderella is lovingly brought to life by Branagh’s creative team. There are some visual effects at work of course. How else can a pumpkin turn in to a carriage? But they service the story instead of crushing it.
The production here is lavish and gorgeous. I savoured every moment of actually watching real live locations. I hope that the the creative teams behind the upcoming “Beauty And The Beast” and “The Jungle Book” can take notes after seeing this film.
