Top Five ***

IMDB Synopsis: A comedian tries to make it as a serious actor when his reality-TV star fiancée talks him into broadcasting their wedding on her TV show.

“Top Five” is a smartly written and directed film from filmmaker Chris Rock. It is nice to see him break away from the film’s like “Madagascar” and “Grown Ups” to do work that actually has some meaning. I’m not sure if people know or not but he is quite the prolific director and writer as well as a great actor and comedian.

Here he plays a famous African American actor who is dealing with life as a celebrity. I imagine some of the things facing the main character may not be too far from some of the things that happen in Rock’s real life. I think this is why he makes this film so thoughtful and full of insight
