“This Means War” was a more entertaining movie then I thought it would be, mainly because I liked the actors performances. Reese Witherspoon is no stranger to romantic comedies but I was surprised by how well Tom Hardy and Chris Pine seemed right at home in much lighter material.
The previews for this movie made it look like it was going to be a dud. The result is not great but it is entertaining. The story reminded me a bit of “True Lies” and “Mr. And Mrs. Smith”. Two secret agents fall in love with the same girl and decide to let the best man win. They start using company resources to spy on each other’s dates, eventually trying to sabotage each other. Oh and there is a side plot about some terrorists or something but it was shoved in to add in pointless action scenes.
The plot and the screenplay are easily predictable and full of cliches, which really restricted how good this movie could have been. There are bad guys but they are literally glimpsed at from time to time so that there can be a few shootings and a chase scene at the end. They should have just dropped this stuff altogether.
