Now here is the comedy I have been waiting for. “Bridesmaids” was pretty good but “Horrible Bosses” is outrageously funny. I am sure that almost everybody has had a boss that they wished was buried in a grave. These guys have three bosses that could be in the record books for how insane they are.
The key to a movie like this is casting and whoever the casting director was on this film deserves some kind of award. The three bosses are played by Kevin Spacey, Jennifer Aniston, and Colin Farrel. Each is terrifyingly good in their respective roles. I don’t think there is any other actor that can verbally break down an employee like Kevin Spacey does. Aniston a borderline sexual predator and Farrel’s character is ripped on coke, balding, and runs his company like a carnival.
The three employees who plan to murder them are Jason Bateman, Jason Sudeikis, and Charlie Day. Bateman works for Spacey and has been putting up with a lot of crap for a possible promotion, Day works for Aniston as her dental assistant who has to put up with being sprayed in the crotch and Sudeikis looks at his boss like a father, until he dies and Farrel takes over.
So they hatch a scheme to kill each others bosses, to avoid being a suspect in the murder of their own boss. First they hire a hit man, played by Jamie Foxx, but turns out they only have enough money to hire him as a consultant. Foxx is hilarious in the few scenes he has.
Black comedy is hard to pull off these days. Especially when there are so many R rated comedies flooding the market. “The Hangover” opened Pandora’s box, and with that came a lot of lame clones. Director Seth Gordon and his writers swing for the fences and hit a home run.
