Red Riding Hood **

Red Riding Hood

I honestly hoped this movie would be good.  I found the previews intriguing.  The look of the film, the case, and the talent behind the camera suggested that this might actually be something special.  I did sense a “Twilight” vibe, especially since Catherine Hardwicke directed the first instalment.

The story takes place in a medieval village that is haunted by a werewolf, a young girl falls for an orphaned woodcutter, much to her family’s displeasure.  Amanda Seyfried plays the young girl.  Her family and everyone in the town lives in fear of the werewolf.  Eventually Gary Oldman is summoned in an effort to deal with the situation.

The positive things I can say about this movie are that the sets and landscapes look terrific.  The performances are all pretty much appropriate. I just found that none of it felt very compelling.  Everything stays pretty tame and that was disappointing.  I was hoping for a bad ass horror film revolving around Red Riding Hood.
