“Clash Of The Titans” is pretty much what you can expect after seeing the trailers for the film. There is a lot of battles between mankind and CGI monsters. This is a remake of a 1981 movie of the same name. This newer version puts more emphasis on visual effects then it does story but remains a pretty fun ride all the way through.
The story follows Perseus (Sam Worthington) in his quest to destroy an ancient beast called the Kraken. The Kraken has been summoned by the evil underworld god Hades (Ralph Fiennes), to destroy the citizens of the city Argos due to their recent lack of loyalty to Zeus. Zeus (Liam Neeson) is the father of Perseus.
Along the way Perseus, and his rag tag group of warriors, will battle garage sized Scorpions, unholy demons, a snake like Medusa and the already mentioned, Kraken of the sea. All these scenes are first rate and edge of your seat.
The drama in the film is given the least amount of attention. In no time at all Perseus’ family killed, leading him to the King’s chambers where he finds himself charged with a quest. The rushed story really sacrifices any caring we might have had for these characters.
“Clash of the Titans” is really a film of our times. It has more in common with “Transformers” then it does with what I would imagine a true fantasy epic should look like.
