I didn’t much care about the first “Madagascar”, but I found the sequel to be quite funny. There is a lot of really twisted humour here that I found quite amusing. The original film seemed to have nothing for these characters to do once they got to the wild. Here there is more of a story, as well as a lot more wit and funny dialogue.
As the first movie ended, our heroes, which consists of Marty the zebra (Chris Rock), Gloria the hippo (Jada Pinket-Smith), Melman the giraffe (David Schwimmer) and of course Alex the lion (Ben Stiller). This time they are joined by a variety of new characters, all of whom flesh out the new characters nicely. Alec Baldwin in particular is giving some serious teeth gnashing time.
I think kids will enjoy this for the broad humour and the great animation, but I found that there was a lot more for the older kids and the adults to enjoy this time around. I am still worried about the state of animated films. Even though I enjoyed this, with the exception of Pixar, we are really are not getting any truly timeless animated films. Compare this movie to the animated films we got 20 years ago such as “Beauty And The Beast” and “The Lion King”. When you really think about it is funny dialogue and cute characters really enough?
