“Aliens” replaces the suspense and brooding atmosphere of the original film, and replaces it with pulse pounding violence and action. Instead of one creature and a small crew we get many creatures and a whole platoon to blast them to bits.
The story involves a small colony that has been developed on the Alien planet where the crew from the original film landed. Earth mysteriously loses contact with the settlement, and Ripley, played again by Sigourney Weaver, and a small army are sent out to find out what happened. When they get there, the find a that all the inhabitants have vanished without much of a trace. Eventually they make contact with the hostiles responsible, and the movie turns in to a series of terrifying action scenes.
From a technical point of view, this movie is first rate. The aliens are convincing. The way they move, the way they hunt and kill, are all pretty scary. I have to credit the editor of this movie, who puts this film together at a heart pounding pace. Everything is tense and absorbing. There was not really a moment where I was not on the edge of my seat.
