Out and about under a full moon

“An American Werewolf In London” is considered a cult classic.  It’s initial run in the theatres was not an overwhelming success.  It has had a long life on home video and cable TV.  It has found a loyal audience over the years, hence why it has had a few different incarnations on VHS and DVD.  For me, I have given it a few tries and I just can’t get in to this movie at all.

The story follows the classic werewolf formula.  Two tourists are attacked and mauled by a werewolf.  Eventually the surviving character starts to have nightmares where he is hunting on all fours, and is visited by those who have died at the hands of the wolf.  Guess what happens next.

For me the story never really engaged me.  I even found it lacking in the actual scenes involving the werewolf.  It also takes a long time before we get any action involving the actual wolf.  The build it is slow and boring.

  1. Considering its often campy competition, it’s hard to argue that, if your in the mood for lycanthropy, London is the place to go. Nice post, check out my review when you can!
