“For Your Eyes Only” is the first Roger Moore starring Bond film since “Live And Let Die” that I have enjoyed. The last three instalments have been disastrous. This movie doesn’t really bring it back to the respectability that the franchise deserves, but it is a step in the right direction. But it is not without some of the dumb elements that we have come to know from the Roger Moore saga.
The movie contains a lot of thrilling chase sequences that are over the top yes, but aren’t goofy. Of course there is the scene where Bond is attacked by a hockey team that is kind of stupid, but it comes with the Moore territory. The movie does open with an awesome stunt sequence where Bond moves from the back to the front of a helicopter on the outside. Then there is a downhill chase on the ski slopes with guns blazing. If I had one gripe it might be that there are too many chases, but that would be complaining about too much of a good thing.
In this instalment Agent 007 is assigned to hunt for a lost British encryption device and prevent it from falling into enemy hands. The device is essentially a mcguffin as it is never really explained. Everybody is after it, which is all we really need to know I guess.
